FAQ: How can I determine if someone is in jail in Travis County?

How can I find out if someone is in the Travis County jail?

If someone is in jail in Travis County, you should be able to find him or her in the Travis County Sheriff’s Inmate Information System.

When the person is first arrested, the Inmate Information System may only list booking details but after the data is fully updated, it will also specify the criminal charge, the amount and type of bond, a unique identifier code known as a “cause number”, and whether the person is being held on a charge from another jurisdiction.

A general rule of thumb is that when the cause number begins with the letter “C” the charge is a misdemeanor and when it begins with the letter “D” it is a felony.
